Happy Friday Metalheads! Hope you’re having a great week. Today we take a trip back to 1983 to the self-titled debut album by Bon Jovi for the track “Runaway.”

“Runaway” was originally recorded in 1981 with a group of studio musicians known as The All Star Review which included  Hugh McDonald – bass, Tim Pierce – guitar  and Roy Bittan – keyboards. The keyboard intro was written by Mick Seeley, who eventually went on to join Southside Johnny and the Asbury Dukes.

In 1983, New York radio station WAPP (103.5 FM) held a contest to find the best unsigned band and after the song won, it became a hit. “Runaway” was the first single released off the album and it hit #39 on the Billboard Top 100 in 1984.

“Runaway” is the only song Bon Jovi still plays live today from their older material and it is one of the songs they are most proud of. Check out the video below that introduced Bon Jovi to the world.

Happy Wednesday Metalheads! To round out our power ballad series for this month, today we take a trip back to 1985 to the second album by Bon Jovi, called “7800 Fahrenheit” for the track “Only Lonely”.

7800 farenheit

The song did fairly well on the music charts, putting Bon Jovi on the map, however the band tends to credit their success to their next album, Slippery When Wet. Singer Jon Bon Jovi has stated in interviews that when they recorded this album, the members of the band were all going through a tough time on a personal level and never want to revisit that time of their lives again. The song however was used in the 1987 film “Light of Day” with Michael J. Fox and Joan Jett.
