Happy Friday Metalheads! Today we a trip back to 1989 to the self-titled debut album by the band Extreme released on A & M records for the track, “Kid Ego.”
The band including Gary Cherone – vocals, Nuno Bettencourt – guitar, Paul Geary – drums and Pat Badger – bass, sold around 300,000 units of the album but didn’t really hit it big until their next album, “Pornograffitti.” The band released “Kid Ego” as a single and the video received substantial airplay on MTV.
Extreme went on to huge success with the song, “More Than Words”, but after releasing a few more albums, they disbanded in 1996. Nuno went on to pursue a solo career and vocalist, Gary Cherone went on to join Van Halen, but left when the second album he sang on with the band, was sent back by Warner Brothers. Pat Badger went on to other projects and drummer Paul Geary went on to found Global Artist Management and signed the then-unknown Godsmack. The company was acquired in 2005 by Irving Azoff and relocated to Los Angeles.
Extreme reunited after disbanding in 1996, but have taken some time off over the years. They do however continue to tour on and off and recently played some shows over this past year. Almost all of the original band has gotten back together with the exception of Paul Geary who has been replaced by drummer Kevin Figueiredo.
