LEATHERWOLF – HIDEAWAY – METAL REWIND

Happy Friday Metalheads! Hope you all had a great week. Today we take a trip back to 1989 to the third album by Leatherwolf called “Street Ready” for the track “Hideaway.”

The album which was recorded in the Bahamas was produced by Kevin Beamish but mixed by German producer Michael Wagener, who has worked with such acts as Dokken, Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne and White Lion to name a few. The band released “Hideaway” as the first single and video and made guest appearances in Europe, Germany and Japan in support of the album.

Unfortunately the band did not receive much support from their label at the time and disbanded in 1993. The original members however returned in 1999 for a reunion show at the Galaxy Theater in California. Throughout the years the band has had several lineup changes but they are still playing and are planning to release a new album in 2020.

80’s HONORABLE MENTIONS

Happy Wednesday Metalheads, hope you’re having a great week. To finish of this month’s Top 5 lists of my favorite 80’s bands, albums and videos, I wanted to mention some of the bands, songs and videos that didn’t make the Top 5 but definitely rank right up there with my favorites. I’ll pick one artist, band, album, video and song from each category that I never get tired of and if I was stranded on a desert island I’d have to have these with me.

OZZY OSBOURNE

One of my all-time favorites, my metal collection wouldn’t be complete without the Ozzman.

DOKKEN

The first song I heard by Dokken was “Breakin’ The Chains” and I was hooked. Each album just got better and better and I never get tired of listening to them

QUEENSRYCHE – OPERATION: MINDCRIME

A perfect concept album from start to finish and no disputing definitely a classic

QUIET RIOT – METAL HEALTH

This was one of the very first metal videos I had ever seen and no matter how many times I see this video I’m still hooked

DOKKEN – ALONE AGAIN

Happy Wednesday Metalheads! Today we’re continuing our trip back in time to the metal power ballads that either we loved or hated. Let me know what some of yours are and I’ll feature them in a future post.

For today’s power ballad, we take a trip back to 1985 to a track off Dokken’s second album “Tooth and Nail” called “Alone Again.” The song chronicles the hurt and depression after a romantic breakup. When asked about the song, singer Don Dokken said that he had written the song when he was 25 but had put it in a box and forgot about it. When the band were working on the “Tooth and Nail” album, their record label had mentioned that power ballads were the next big thing at that time, so Don brought the tape to the studio and along with bassist Jeff Pilson “Alone Again” was born.

The song became the band’s biggest hit and the video was played in heavy rotation on MTV. Shot mostly in black and white, the video shows the band in concert and cuts to Don in his hotel room alone after their shows dealing with the pain of the breakup. See the classic video below:
